What is Thrombophilia?

Thrombophilia is a hereditary or acquired condition where blood tends to clot more easily. This can lead to serious health issues such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, and recurrent pregnancy loss.

Inherited Thrombophilia

Genetic factors such as Factor V Leiden, Prothrombin G20210A, MTHFR mutations, and Protein C/S deficiency.

Acquired Thrombophilia

Antiphospholipid syndrome, prolonged immobility, surgery, pregnancy, and hormonal therapies.

Risk Factors

Family history, advanced age, obesity, smoking, and prolonged immobilization.

Who Should Get Tested?

Thrombophilia testing is recommended in the following situations:

Family history of thrombosis (DVT, pulmonary embolism)
Recurrent pregnancy loss
Thrombosis before age 45
Women planning to use oral contraceptives or HRT
Pre-surgical risk assessment
Unexplained thromboembolic events

How Does the Test Work?

1

Sample Collection

A small blood sample is drawn. No fasting required.

2

DNA Isolation

DNA is extracted and purified from the blood sample.

3

Genetic Analysis

Mutations (Factor V Leiden, Prothrombin, MTHFR, etc.) are analyzed via PCR and sequencing.

4

Bioinformatics Review

Data is reviewed by expert geneticists.

5

Reporting

Your detailed report is ready within 7-10 business days.
