Thrombophilia is a clotting disorder. Inherited thrombophilias are a group of conditions in which blood tends to clot.

Symptoms of Clotting Disorders

Because blood clots in these conditions, the following may occur:

  • Vascular occlusion (thromboembolism)
  • Clots in organs: in the heart, lungs and brain
  • Pregnancy complications: miscarriage or stillbirth
  • Intrauterine growth restriction

An increase in pregnancy losses is observed in patients with inherited thrombophilia.

In Recurrent Miscarriage

A thrombophilia panel is recommended in recurrent miscarriage. With early diagnosis, appropriate treatment can be planned.
